Its not enough to just sit and be okay with what you have now. You have to sometimes take the chance to learn how to be on a new platform your peers use or even pick up new skills that will allow you to thrive.

There are different ways to refine your craft and listed below are some ways you can.

Get out of your Comfort Zone

Getting out of your comfort zone may sound easy however that isn’t precisley the case in expanding your craft.Being able to do something different that you never would have thought to do is a necessary.

Its important as a creative to attend classes whether theoretical or practical to give you more knowledge on how to improve. You can learn from people who are more experienced than you. It will challenge you to become a better creative and you will be happy for it rather than staying stagnant.

Attend Practical classes as well

Art Classes

Registering and attending classes that give you a push is crucial in aiding you to refine your skills. Practicality is more apparent in fashion and art classes as you will work with the different material or medium to know what works best. Art classes will usually teach how different papers work with different medium i.e. watercolor paper being suited for watercolors and water color pencils. Usually a demonstration is performed to see what’s suited or not.

Fashion Classes

Being taught in fashion classes in comparison would usually show you the different fabric weights, which sewing needle sizes to choose from, thread types and the different stitches that work well with respective fabric. Usually you are shown how use the sewing to make different clothing i.e. trousers, skirt and blouse and show how to size them and make patterns.These classes allow you to ask for help with your machine and a problem that may occur as you learn.

Book a Group Classes

Classes in art, dance and fashion can either be registered and attended for a day or for a longer period of time i.e. 3 or 6 months. Group classes in dance can be for a day or part of a dance convention which can last a week and allows for different dance styles to be attempted. You can as well learn in a group dynamic to balance how to dance with other people in energy and performance. It can be quite daunting to commit to participate in an activity that you fear in messing up however, it’s important to note the more you show up and work at it, you will ultimately improve.

Solo Class

Solo classes in turn can in turn have one on one interaction and time to get better and more tips on improving. These type of classes can be done for art and dance and have you pick up on what skills you may be lacking in that you need to improve. You may not instantly improve within these solo sessions however, you will be able to focus on improving your craft more.

Don’t overthink things

Getting better in your craft can be scary as there are so many things to learn, always remember to pace yourself to take your time. Sometimes things can be overwhelming as you are trying to find a balance to be fully present in life and completing classes or a project. Just remember its okay to ask for help from your teachers on your projects and to take your time instead of overworking yourself.

Don’t rush to a final end look for your craft; learn the process, enjoy it and see what more you can learn.
