Fashion is a complete artistic statement as I mentioned in detail in my post: What to Love About Fashion. This post will look at how hair can be just as powerful as the accessories and clothes we wear to create a remarkable outfit.
Before getting down to how hair is a fashion accessory, the word accessory has to be defined. According to Merriam-Webster describes an accessory as, an object or device that is not essential in itself but adds to the beauty, convenience, or effectiveness of something else.
Why is hair an accessory?
Besides looking at how a belt, jewellery, shoes, makeup and bags can be crucial accessories that can either crunch or amplify an outfit; hair also plays the same part when creating a look.
Below are a few pointers on why hair can be an accessory:
It can be colorful.
Hair can be dyed to being any color of choice, either bright pastel color or deep intense dark colors. Colorful hair can add some vibrancy to a simplistic outfit without piling on with colorful jewellery.
This can be seen in Rihanna’s outfit below, where she is wearing an over-sized white print t-shirt and black block heel boots. The red hair picks up her outfit to a casual and vibrant street look even with the earrings and gold watch she has on.
Styles are versatile.
Hair can also be styled in various ways that can make a person’s outfit stand out even more. Shaved, medium and Short hair can add some minimalism where large accessories such as earrings, sunglasses etc or colorful clothes can be added. Long and thick curly or long natural hair can be styled to be fully plaited or half plaited to create a different look to outfits.
Compliments the outfit.
After factoring in the different ways tat hair can stand out in terms of style and color, different hairstyles and cuts can greatly compliment a whole outfit.
As the pictures below from the top left corner, natural hair that is turned into an up-do bun can makes the simple casual date outfit be appealing. The mix braids makes the outfit appear edgy with the contrast and unity of colors in the clothes and accessories. The black outfit and black shoes with the bright yellow, grey, white and black pattern trench-coat with the flipped straight golden brown blonde hair makes the entire outfit chic and trendy street wear.
From the bottom left to right, the short bob makes the white dress stand out even more by making it an appealing soothing look. The last look with the bright yellow outfit and yellow head gear with the short red hair makes the entire look standout with its contrast in the color of hair and the whole outfit.
Conclusion
Accessories add greater value to an entire outfit but hair is one of the key players that brings it all together to enhance the whole look. A different style, hair color or length can make your outfit look different.
Now go out there and strut in your outfit with an epic hair do or different style or hair color and shake the fashion tables.
